Ode to the color green
When the Earth was bald and quiet, silence and scars, extensions of dry lava and congealed rocks, greenness appeared, the color green, clover, acacia, a river of green water.
The crystal melted into wonder, and the myriad shades of green originated and multiplied. Greens, greens of pasture and of eyes, greens of the ocean's romance, greens of the belfry, slim greens for the fisherman's net, for algae, for the sky, and for the rainforest, vibrating green, and for grapes, acid green.
Dress of the Earth, leafy population, not solitary but the times tables of wide green, shadowy like green night, clear and sharp as a green violin, thick in the thickness, metallic, sulfuric in the copper mine, poison of rusty spears, wet with the bog's embrace, beauty's virtue.
Window of the quick-spinning moon, opalines, dead greens blushing with autumnal light in the eucalyptus'daggers, cold as a fish skin, the sick greens, saturnine neons that wound with hefty light, the winged green of the lightning bug's wedding, and lettuce's buttery tender green when it receives chaste drops of lemon extracted by an olive hand.
The green I did not hold, I do not hold, the green I could never claim is the underground underwater brilliance, luminescence of the emerald, verdant eagle in stone, eye of the abyss, frozen butterfly, star that could not find the sky, and so it buried a green wave in the Earth's deepest chamber, and there like a rosary from subterranean fire-lands, sea-flame and tiger-heart, you slept in splendor, green stone, fingernail of the mountains, river of conceit, hostile statue, hardened green.Etiquetas: Pablo Neruda |
